Gregory - It Was The Right Decision

Manager John Gregory has said that despite the frustration of now having to play the replay again following tonight's cancellation, the referee called it right.

Crawley and Bristol Rovers literally battled through just over 75 minutes of the second round replay and immediately post cancellation, the clubs' match day live feed carried quotes from our manager who said.

'It was the correct decision, it should've been called off earlier. The referee said at half time that it if continues we might have to go off and it was (the decision) right, we could have played for another 30+ minutes and that wouldn't have been possible.'

Already being the second round replay it would've needed deciding on the night and had scores remained level, as they were at the point of cancellation, then extra time and then potentially penalties would've been called for and who knows what the pitch and conditions would've been like then.

Continuing, the gaffer said that the fans in attendance all deserve medals because the conditions were 'atrocious' and even Mark Connolly passed comment that because of how wet the pitch was (and would've seen or will see in the media how waterlogged it was) it was becoming dangerous with players sliding around through not much fault of their own, and what could start as a fair tackle to begin with can end up as something far worse when a player doesn't have control when it's that slippy.
