O'Connor Impressing Gregory

O'Connor Impressing Gregory

Canadian Emmett O'Connor was recommended to John Gregory this summer and he has been looking at the midfielder this pre-season, using him against Billingshurst on Friday and again on Tuesday against Oakwood.

But who is Emmett O'Connor? He's a relative unknown, in fact a virtual unknown as from all the trialists used by Gregory, at least up to and including Billingshurst, they had all featured in some form in this country previously, the 21-year-old hasn't....

O'Connor can play in midfield or as a striker and although he has a lot of 'rough edges' the boss is impressed with him and will continue to give him his chance to earn a contract.

Gregory told the Crawley News: 'He is full of running and has a lot of rough edges. He`s young and enthusiastic and wants to be a footballer.

'He has no passport problems either because he also has an Irish passport.

'He is a terrific kid and we will look at him this week, he`ll stay a little while with us.'

Gregory fielded another ten trialists against Oakwood; they were:

Striker Collins John, former Derby County defender Dean Leacock, former Watford winger Bobson (what an interesting name!) Bawling, former Stevenage midfielder Simon Heslop and former Kent County League midfielder Danny Childs along with former Shrewsbury striker Johnny Marsden, former Bournemouth young 'keeper Chad Collins, winger Anthony Harris and former Bournemouth defender Lewis Lindsay.

Not forgetting O`Connor of course!

How many will make it remains to be seen but at this juncture the Canadian looks to have a decent chance.
