Crawley 1-2 Gillingham
A second cup exit in three-days was suffered by Crawley on Tuesday night as our Johnstone's Paint Trophy bit was ended by league 1 rivals Gillingham.
Despite taking a first half lead two second half goals, including a late winner, were enough to see 10-man Gillingham turn the tie around an knock us out 2-1 at Broadfield.
Having previously threatened Izale McLeod was given a better chance to open the scoring around the midway point of the first half. Jake Hessenthaler fouled Gwion Edwards giving McLeod (21) the chance, which he took sending Stuart Nelson the wrong way.
McLeod could have added a second from a Bobson Bawling cross but his header wasn't on target. The game could have been out of sigh if Nelson hadn't saved to deny both Jimmy Smith and Gavin Tomlin.
Gillingham's best chance came to Luke Norris, who just missed the target.
The visitors chances should have become even more limited when Joe Martin was shown a straight red card around the midway point of the second half when he pushed McLeod off the ball.
Soon after this though substitute Jermaine McGlashan (68) beat Jamie Ashdown to bring Gillingham level at one-one.
As a penalty shootout loomed large a cross, from 35-yards, from Doug Loft (87) ended up going over Ashdown and into the back off the net to send Gillingham into the southern area semi finals and leave us contemplating FA Cup and JPT exits in a matter of days!
