Oldham Athletic 1-1 Crawley
Crawley's disappointing week, which saw us go out of two cup competitions with several players transfer-listed, at least ended on a positive note with a draw at Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
The home side had the better of the chances but a fine strike was enough to ensure that we took a share of the points in a 1-1 draw at Boundary Park, which is all the record books will recall, as some of the pressure on John Gregory was eased.
Oldham's new Aston Villa loanee Daniel Johnson (7) took no time to announce himself to the home crowd as he worked his was through our defence before firing home with less than 10-minutes played to put the hosts ahead.
Had it not been for Jamie Ashdown, who saved efforts from Mike Jones and Danny Philliskirk, Oldham would have been out of sight in the first half.
Those saves made the difference as we drew level just ahead of the half time interval.
Oldham 'keeper Paul Rachubka was hesitant and this put the defence under pressure giving Gwion Edwards (42) the chance, which he took, as he drove home a superb effort from 25-yards to send us in level at the break.
Ashdown was busy again in the second half keeping out two effort from Jones with Philliskirk and Timothee Dieng not troubling him though and another Dieng header was straight at him.
A rare Crawley effort saw Bobbie Bawling force Rachubka into a save from 20-yards, with the points shared and that will please us far more than it will Oldham!
